Vancouver Island
M’akola Housing Society first opened in Victoria to support Indigenous families and has expanded North in previous decades to provide safe and affordable housing to individuals, couples, Elders, and families across the Island. M’akola has townhomes, apartments, and single-family dwellings from Victoria to Campbell River and regional offices in six cities to serve our tenants and applicants.
Our Housing
Each home has eligibility criteria, including household size, income, and family ancestry. On Vancouver Island M’akola owns and operates M’akola Rent Geared to Income (MRGI), M’akola Low End of Market (MLEM), and M’akola Assisted Living (MAL) homes.
Some homes require applicants to identify as Indigenous, which means families must have at least one household member that self identifies as Indigenous. As an Indigenous housing provider, preference is given to Indigenous applicants for buildings that don’t require applicants to identify as Indigenous.
